Lilla Heinrich Szász is an American born, Transylvanian blooded bible teacher, speaker, music educator, worship singer, and author of her upcoming book + Bible Study:
"Big Dreams, BIGGER GOD"
A former professional opera singer who has won critical acclaim for her “appealing sound, agile coloratura and oversize wit” (New York Times), and a graduate of The Juilliard School (M.M., B.M.) with honors, Lilla did not grow up with much of a Christian background.
In 2010 however, Lilla was given her first ever bible for her birthday by her college roommate, who together, with another friend started a bible study in their dorm.
"I don't remember what was said, but I'll never forget the peace I felt after each bible study." - Lilla
Being at Juilliard was an intense environment. With all the elite competition, rigorous academics and high-stake public performances, it was difficult to make meaningful friendships. Bible study became one of Lilla's main outlets, besides singing, to which she could turn to de-stress from the crazy week.
It wasn't until 2016, however, that she heard and understood the Gospel (which means Good News!) and learned the Bible.
That summer, during her European Audition Tour, Lilla got the chance to visit a Concentration Camp out of reverence to her grandfather, a half Jew by descent, who was only 1 of 2 survivors at a Working Camp along the Austrian border. He survived by working hard and eating potato peels from the garbage. He was released after contracting Typhus, for fear of it spreading to the officials.
It was here at this Concentration Camp in Munich, where Lilla learned that Christians were the ones who survived the longest:
"It didn't make any sense. I thought, "Why would ANYONE want to survive through all that physical and psychological torture?...
I mean, be forced to clean the floor with my tongue, sleep on a wooden bed on top of several others with no pillow or bed sheets, not be able to look anyone in the eye or else risk being killed, eat moldy bread or watery soup every other 4 days, be beaten to the point of death and forced to dig holes or run in the snow for several hours for no reason, with barely any clothes or shoes?!...
I'd gladly die than have to continue to live."
I began to ask myself:
"What was it about Christians,
that made them survive the longest?"
After visiting the Concentration Camp, and a series of "non-coincidental" events (which can be read about in her new book) Lilla invited God into her life and instantly a huge weight of despair left her.
Soon after returning to America, she was working out in her parent's basement, when she looked down and found next to her on the floor something and next to it a seed. She saved it in a piece of tape:
"It looked like Jesus on the cross.
It even had eyes, a crown of thorns, a hole in the feet,
a gash on the side & even a pack of abs!
I could hardly believe it!
"WHERE did this come from?" I thought.
I ran to my computer and Googled: " Jesus & Seed."
Google results showed:
"The seed is the Word (the Bible), which has been made flesh (Jesus)."
"Man, how I WISH I could have a bible study," I thought,
"Like the one I used to have at Juilliard!...
But where am I ever going to find one like that?"
Then I remembered my bible — the one my roommate got for my birthday!
I opened it up to the first page of the New Testament,
which is the Gospel account of Matthew.
But soon after I began reading it, I became utterly confused.
I didn't know what I was reading was Jesus' genealogy.
So I gave up reading and put the bible back on the shelf."
All of her colleagues were using the dating app Tinder, so Lilla decided to join. She matched with a guy who's best friend just-so-happened to be an associate pastor, who invited her to his bible study/university credit course, which just-so-happened to start the very next day. It was at this bible study where she learned that Jesus was Jewish, and was introduced to the Bible's amazing history.
"Everything started making sense. I realized that I was in Israel as an opera singer 10 years prior and walked the streets of Jerusalem - the Holy Land - and didn't know a thing. I even have a photo of me touching a stone, simply because everyone was doing it. I had no idea what I was actually touching could've been the very stone slab that Jesus was buried on after his crucifixion"
Because of that Tinder date, Lilla also met another friend who was on the worship team at a
non-denominational church, where Lilla accepted Christ. Six months later she got baptized and is now an active member, sings on the Worship Team and enjoys serving, leading Bible studies, directing the Children's Musicals, and leading the Youth Ministry called Young LIFE.
THE GOSPEL IN ONE SENTENCE:
GOD LOVES YOU
The LORD heard my cry and answered my prayer.
He is a God who hears us when we cry out to Him for help.
He has been so gracious to me and has redeemed all my hurt.
God sees you, loves you & deeply cares for you.
You are never alone because He is personal,
He is ALWAYS with you, and is by your side.
Q: WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO DIE?
Jesus was beaten 100s of times, carried a cross weighing 300+ lbs up a steep hill.
It was so heavy, that he fell three times carrying it to the very place where he'd be crucified.
He was made fun of, spit on and mocked by the Roman soldiers, was called
King of the Jews, yet he died a criminal's death as a completely innocent man.
He paid the ULTIMATE price so that you & I could be made right with God.
Through His sacrifice, we can have REAL inner peace, no matter what we face on earth.
We no longer have to shed the blood of innocent animals for the forgiveness of sins,
which was mandatory to the Jewish Law (found in the Old Testament).
God sent his own Son, Jesus of Nazareth, as the FINAL sacrifice for us (Lamb of God), to which all the previous sacrifices were pointing to all along!
He paid IN FULL, the penalty for our sins.
NOW we can live a NEW LIFE in restored fellowship and relationship
with our Creator, the One and Only True God of Abraham, Moses, Jacob and Joseph
FOREVER, without guilt & shame of our sin.
Jesus of Nazareth defeated DEATH, then ROSE from the grave
& SHOWED UP to hundreds of people for 40 days.
What's cool is we have documented historical evidence of this
by a Jewish historian named Josephus, who he HIMSELF
did not believe Jesus was the Messiah, whom the Jews were waiting for.
Then, Jesus sent the HOLY SPIRIT (JOHN 16:7, ACTS 2:4) to live in us
(EPHESIANS 1:13), be our counselor, helper, guider, (JOHN 14:26) and give us supernatural power to live like Christ each day with love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (GALATIANS 5:22-23),
& boldness to share of His Love with others.
The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to not fear death.
The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to love others who hate.
The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to forgive others.
The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to go forward in faith.
The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to have God's peace.
So what are you waiting for?
Do you want to receive this
FREE GIFT too?
When you learn to know Jesus, you begin an amazing journey into God’s plan for your life. The Bible says:
EVERYONE NEEDS SALVATION:
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
- Romans 3:23
SALVATION IS A FREE! GIFT:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
- Romans 6:23
JESUS DIED FOR OUR SALVATION:
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
- Romans 5:8
GOD SAVES ALL WHO CALL ON HIM:
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
- Romans 10:13
SALVATION COMES FROM FAITH:
"But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work,
but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.”
- Romans 4:5
WE ARE SAVED BY GOD'S GRACE:
"And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works;
if it were, grace would no longer be grace."
- Romans 11:6
Knowing Jesus is simply:
Acknowledging your need for Him
Accepting His amazing free gift of salvation and provision
Inviting Him into your heart to lead and guide you
Reading and studying God's Amazing Word:
The Bible - Old Testament & New Testament
(My Favorite Bible = The Life Application Study Bible)
It recognizes that you can’t live this life on your own,
that you’re a sinner and are in need of a Savior.
You cannot earn your way to Heaven
through good works or religious activity.
Your GOOD WORKS cannot save you — otherwise salvation
would not be a FREE gift. If "good works" could save us, then:
Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?
Our good works become a natural response out of our gratitude to God and all that He has done for us through Jesus' atoning death.
Therefore, going to church, loving others, working hard, and
serving our community comes instinctively and organically.
It is a natural response, which flows out of a reverent heart,
immense love & gratitude to God, through the help of the Holy Spirit.
Just like we can't force love, neither can our love for God be forced.
This is why God cares more about our heart condition towards him.
"But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'
For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
- Matthew 9:13
God doesn't NEED us. He wanted us.
Just like having a child isn't something I "need" in order to survive.
I desire to have a child simply because I'd want to love them.
God created us out of love ❤️ and wants fellowship with us.
God doesn't "need" us...
He wanted us.
BUT WE NEED HIM!
Jesus killed "religion"
on the cross.
"RELIGION" VS. RELATIONSHIP:
A set of rules which you have to "do" in order to be made right with God.
But Jesus' last words on the cross, were:
"It is DONE" - John 19:30
Man tries to "reach up" to God, when God has already reached down
to man, by sending His son to save us and He pulls us up!
"Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save;
neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear."
- Isaiah 59:1
Imanu'el; also አማኑኤል ('Amanuel') in Geez and Amharic, and Emmanouhl or Εμμανουήλ as per original Koine Greek [Κοινή Ελληνική] language of the New Testament) is a Hebrew name which appears in the Book of Isaiah (7:14) as a sign that God will protect the House of David. [Blenkinsopp, Joseph (1996). A History of Prophecy in Israel. Westminster John Knox Press.]
Not what we "have to do for God", but instead first realize & understand HOW MUCH HE has already done for us by sending his son to die in our place and pay the penalty for our sins (which we never deserved anyway).
This makes us stand in AWE of His great love,
so we CAN'T HELP but want to give back.
God doesn't need our want "religion" ,
He wants a relationship.
We wants the affections of our ❤️ heart.
"Greater love has no one than this,
that someone lay down his life for his friends."
- John 15:13
"And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."
- Ephesians 5:2
Jesus Christ's death restores our relationship
with God, our Loving Father and our Creator.
NOW ANYONE can come to God,
ANYWHERE & ANYTIME!
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."
- Matthew 6:6
Let me know that you've made this AWESOME decision to invite Jesus as your personal Lord & Savior, and best friend, so I can be praying with you and for you.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
- JOHN 3:16
"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
- 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18
